Ok, so where was I? Oh right, the Grand Palace.
So I was told that the Grand Palace opened at 930 so after visiting Wat Pho I went walking around the outer edge of the complex. I got to the gate around 845/9 and it was already super crowded. -.- Mostly loud tour groups, I heard mostly Chinese but also some Japanese and possibly Korean. The place was beautiful and I am glad I went and had the experience but man all of the people kind of sucked the fun out of it.

After the Grand Palace, I had to run/ferry back to my hostel in order to check out before noon. I changed clothes then went on a adventure, on the tickets it says that you get free entrance to some sort of teak house,so I went to go find it. After taking a ferry to a random stop, walking like 2 miles then asking a hostel owner where I was going. I ended up on the backside of Teak House Resident where all of the tour buses park. Regardless I finally made it and I realized I should have stayed in the pants I was wearing earlier(all royal residents/places required certain dress code; no shorts, short skirts, etc) so I was forced to by a modesty sarong but it worked out in my favor because it became my towel in the islands. Regardless, it was an interesting house, nice and cool as well(yay air conditioning) and I arrived around the perfect time for an almost exclusive English tour of the house. I was the only native English speaker on the tour which I found funny. I don’t have any photos from inside of the house(it wasn’t allowed), but I do have a few of the outside. I think it was the royal residents of King Rama V, I think.

another museum/house on the same land
After the Teak house and some smaller museum/houses on the land, I went to the parliament/government building that was in the same area.(Also free with Grand Palace ticket). It was interesting, they had an audio tour in English that was pretty interesting but I was just getting really tired of the crowds so I didn’t hang out as long as I could have.
The outside, once again no photos inside
After that I headed back to the hostel, packed up my bags(the hostel was nice enough to hold my leather jacket until I returned because I wouldn’t need it in the islands) then headed to the train station. My dumb self had read that there were dinning cars and so I didn’t buy food. The food wasn’t bad but every time I looked there were charging me for something else(fruit, water, spoon, air, just kidding but you get the idea).Regardless the trains were really interesting and I liked how they were chairs that would be flipped down into beds, really really nifty. Although I was ill-prepared for the air conditioning in the train car, so I decided next time to say money and to get in the fan train car(cheaper and no air con) it was much more comfortable with only shorts to wear.

Outside the train the next morning
So my first stop was to Koh Samui, most of the time I spent on Koh samui was spent looking for cheap food, laying out tanning or running in the morning. I met some cool British guys and we went walking on the beach in the evening to see the fire spinning.

The next morning I went running then I went and got my dslr camera in order to take photos of the sun rise.

After another few days of tanning we went to the ‘night market’ the night market on koh samui isn’t that big but it was nice we got some good food. I got some curry, I think, a beer or two, a crepe thingy; I made a kitty friend no surprise to anyone who knows me. After that we headed back to the hostel, I hung out with the boys until they headed out to go partying, I stayed at the hostel because I was transferring to the other island early in the morning.

on the ferry to Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan is known for their full moon parties but I went in between the huge parties and it was pretty cheap to stay there. I met lots of interesting people from all over the world, but no Americans. I think I only met two americans in all of my Chinese New Year’s Travel one in Bangkok who was applying for Peace Corps actually and one in Hong Kong. I got to explore Koh Phangan a bit more than Koh Samui mainly because it was smaller and because my mom is awesome. If I had planned it better I could have gone to Koh Tao for snorkeling but oh well I still had a great time. I would beach hop, meaning I would go to one beach lay out for the awhile, go to another beach maybe go swimming or eat some fruit lay out then on to the next one. It was great I got a bit of a sun burnt but not too badly.

You can walk/swim to this island, sadly I had a dslr camera and a purse so I couldn’t
The French beach

Best beach on the island
So the reason some of the beaches are named French/Russian etc is because sometimes the resorts on those beaches were mostly catering to French/Russian/Australian etc people so that is how I remember the beaches. Additionally my best beach on the island pick, I’m pretty sure its the smallest beach on the island and the road getting there is under construction and very sketchy but its totally worth it. I could totally imagine having my honeymoon there in the future; very few tourists, a great beach, a lovely restaurant, and a river that flows into the ocean creates an interesting area. I think it was called Haad Tian Sabet(?) but it was great, I met a group from South Africa who were pretty awesome and a very noisy cat.

After a great time on Koh Phangan I headed back to Bangkok, I was only there for two evenings then I flew back to Hong Kong. While in Bangkok I managed to get to Krispy Kreme on Valentines day and I did all of my souvenir shopping at the weekend Market. Which I totally recommend to anyone and everyone who is going to Bangkok, its crazy but really awesome. I met an awesome seller who is a volunteer Japanese/Chinese/Thai/English translator. We got to talking and she sold me a 100% authentic thai silk scarf for like 200 baht(it was normally 350). But regardless I enjoyed talking to her and she gave me a bunch of oranges that I ate later. The next day I had to catch my plane back to Hong Kong.

Next post will be Hong Kong. I promise to finally finish and catch up on life. I swear.
Cheers
